Start advertising to schools earlier
Advertising was key to getting participants to the camp. We determined that advertising at the the schools would be best. We found that many schools needed special forms and specific things written on the fliers before they could be curculated. If we had started earlier on this, we could have firgured out these problems and got the word out for more kids to come. Lastly, we had Jorge go to the schools in person and adverstise to the kids in their classes. This was very effective. Better preparation would have brought our project to the attention of more schools. Since it wasn't baseball season, we should have advertised with other sporting teams such football and basketball.
Assigned responsibilities
Early on, our iindividual responsibilities in the project were not specifically assigned. As we meet in our group, we figured out what needed to be done and who was best suited to carry them out. We had such assigments as pre-fund raising, advertizing, food planning, T-shirt printing, location selecting, the auction, and the running of the event. By the end of the project, everyone had followed through with their roles.
Realized that people procrastinate in registering for the event
We should have only guaranteed participants a T-shirt if they registered by a cut off date. This would have helped people to not procrastinate in signing up. Also, this would have helped us to not print up too many T-shirts.
How could the auction have been better
We should have run the auction more like E-Bay. We should have had a buy it now price and a place to put your highest bid. Also, the auction should have ended sooner because most of the people went home earlier.
